SCA Distance Learning Guidance

We are excited to start this new learning opportunity with you. The required change to off-campus learning has accelerated our development of digital learning plans and schoolwide use of instructional technology. Because there will be not state assessment this year for K-8 nor second semester high school classes, this is the perfect window for all of us to become comfortable with our resources and try new learning strategies!

Hello Spartan Families,

We hope you are well and eager to get started with your distance learning adventure!

We are excited to start this new learning opportunity with you. The required change to off-campus learning has accelerated our development of digital learning plans and schoolwide use of instructional technology.  Because there will be no state assessments this year for K-8 nor second semester high school classes, this is the perfect window for all of us to become comfortable with our resources and try new learning strategies!

The school staff met this morning to sort details and to make sure we are preparing the best lessons for you.  SCA coursework will be presented to you via teachers’ Google Classroom (GC). GC will be the hub for our distance learning resources and lessons. Students will have instructions emailed to them for accessing GC. Parents of our smallest Spartans (K-2) please contact your child’s homeroom teacher for your child’s login information so you may help them. Parents of larger Spartans can reach out too if needed!

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is also preparing distance learning lessons for other schools.  Because we share the same student database you may get messages, emails, or other notices about assignments designed for others that are not required for SCA students. Please focus your efforts on the lessons supplied by SCA teachers. Our teachers know your children best and will continue to help them along the way.

Teachers have “office hours” from 8:00 AM -2:00 PM each school day. During this time, they are available to assist you with questions via email, text and video chat, and other tools they will share with you.

Teachers will also have three “power hours” each day. During this time teachers will supply direct instruction to you via recorded lessons and live support. Live support is limited to 1.5 hours per day.

We strongly encourage you to seek help during office hours and make sure you log on during power hours.

First assignments will be posted by the close of business March 27th. Assignments are due by Friday of each week. Encourage your children to work each day on their assignments to keep from getting overwhelmed and behind.

If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher (K-8) or advisor (9-12).

The administrative team office hours are also from 8:00 AM- 2:00 PM.   For students that receive support with an IEP and 504, your case manager will contact you and then walk you through the support provided via distance learning as detailed in your child’s learning plan.

Please keep in mind this is quite the shift to our practice. There will be a learning curve for us all.

Teachers are working hard to be ready to post this Friday.

Before Friday, homeroom teachers (K-8) and advisors (9-12) will be contacting you electronically and by phone if needed. Take the time to respond promptly to their information requests so we can make sure you and your child are ready for distance learning.

STUDENT MEDICATION at SCA:

The SCA campus is closed. However, if you have medication for your child at SCA you may collect from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM tomorrow, Tuesday March 24th. Come to the main entrance and the nurse will meet you. No more than two visitors will be allowed to enter at a time. Be prepared to answer a few COVID-19 visitor screening questions before we open the door. Once inside, you will have your temperature checked and given hand sanitizer. Visitors that do not meet screening requirements will not be permitted to enter the building.

Thank you for supporting SCA. We are very much a community here at 705 East Anderson St. We do miss the students and hope to re-open campus soon. Please continue to monitor our communication tools and website for details and updates.

Stay Healthy,

Barry K. Lollis
