SAVANNAH, GA – December 3, 2018 – REACH Georgia recently selected eight Chatham County students as REACH Scholars; three of these high-achieving students were from Savannah Classical Academy (SCA). Eighth-graders Jaleah Sanders, Nakeira Fickling, and Kiyonna Bush recently attended the Governor designated REACH Georgia Statewide Signing Day at Islands High School.
During this signing REACH Scholars, along with the support of their parents/guardians, signed contracts committing to satisfying the program requirements, graduating from high school, and enrolling and completing college. REACH Georgia is a needs-based mentorship and scholarship program that begins in 8th grade. REACH Scholars are paired with a mentor and an academic coach through middle and high school. Scholars must maintain good grades (2.5 GPA), behavior and attendance through middle and high school. Scholars who successfully complete the program and graduate from high school are awarded a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/ year) that can be used at any HOPE-eligible institution in Georgia. A majority of Georgia colleges match or double-match this scholarship in addition to any other grant or scholarship the student receives.
(SCA) was founded in Chatham County in 2013 as a lottery enrollment public charter school.
“Recently SCA has had great success with the exceptional educators and curriculum maintained,” said Scott McGhie, chairman of SCA’s board of directors. “The selection of three of our students proves that we are fulfilling our mission.”
SCA’s mission is to provide every child with a classical and academically rigorous education while instilling a commitment to civic virtue and moral character. SCA is committed to developing literate and articulate students who will become active, responsible members of the community and will make a positive contribution to society.
