Savannah Business Journal Staff Report
August 28, 2020 – Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) has announced the appointment of Katherine Reid as Assistant Director. In this newly added position, Reid will support SCA Executive Director, Barry Lollis, who has led the nonprofit K-12 charter school for the last four years.
Reid received her bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s degree in secondary education from Georgia College and State University. After graduation, she began her career in education working for middle-Georgia’s Putnam County Charter School System (PCCSS). Reid was originally hired as a secondary science teacher, responsible for leading the department in the development of curriculum and instruction.
After earning her educational leadership certification, Reid held various roles during her time with PCCSS including Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Director, College and Career Readiness Coordinator, Dual-Enrollment Coordinator, and Youth Empowerment for Success Program Manager which has afforded her the opportunity to gain a wide variety of valuable experience, knowledge and skills.
“As my job title evolved over time, I continued to be responsible for coordinating the CTAE and dual-enrollment programs, providing guidance on academic, college, and career related curriculum and instruction, overseeing secondary and post-secondary faculty members all of differing disciplines, planning and implementing student services, all while overseeing federal and state budgets,” Reid said of her time in PCCSS.
To support her career goals, she attends and presents at local, state, and national conferences, serves on a GaDOE advisory committee, and serves as an education consultant on various projects. In her free time, Reid volunteers at LifeSource food distributions and is enjoying exploring her new hometown with her family.
“Having the benefit of working with Katherine Reid while serving in Putnam County’s school district, I know her to be dedicated and talented,” said Executive Director Barry Lollis. “SCA’s growth in student enrollment will benefit from the addition of the added support of an Assistant School Director, we were very pleased Katherine applied and was selected as the best applicant. I look forward to continuing to build SCA with Katherine’s and the rest of our wonderful faculty’s support.
“Having worked in many different aspects of a public charter school system, I feel well-equipped to step into this role as SCA’s new Assistant Director,” said Reid. “I look forward to working alongside Mr. Lollis and the SCA faculty to support successful student outcomes in Savannah’s only K-12 public charter school.”
SCA is a K-12 charter school which is open to all students residing in Chatham County, is funded by the public education system but retains a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members.
